  1. Clean Gutters:

    Gutters should be cleaned twice a year. Homeowners usually clean gutter in the spring and in fall. Make sure you clean your gutters in the fall after most of the leaves have fallen. Failing to clean gutters could result in the following problems: 1. Gutters being weighed down and detaching from your house. 2. Foundation damage due to overflow from gutters. 3. Roof, window and basement leaks. 4.Insect infestations.   2. Insulate, Caulk, and Weather Strip:

    Head to your local hardware store and get some materials to better protect your home from cold temperatures. Caulking, insulating, and weatherstripping doors and windows is a DIY task that can be completed in a weekend. Additionally, its a low-cost way to keep cold weather out and warm air in!

  3. Clean and Maintain Fireplace:

    If you have a fireplace, make sure you sweep the chimney. Also, make sure you keep the flue closed on your fireplace when you’re not using it.

  4. Protect Water Pipes:

    Next, wrap water pipes in your basement or crawlspace with insulated sleeves. You can also insulate outdoor water spigots with covers to keep them from freezing up.
